Salary + ability to accelerate bonus potential. Provides ability for hard, effective work = strong, financial compensation. On a side note, CNX's personal/people, wellness approach and support of a good life balance (if one choses) is a huge benefit not always factored in compensation.
Many make themselves available and provide, when possible, a person touch versus a "general/trite" message. For me, receiving a "personal touch," knowing all of our executives are busy, is a huge retention factor. If business is only business, I believe you lose some of the personal values-goals.
