savers operates a chain of retail thrift stores offering used merchandise for men, women and children.
The Savers family of stores is a for-profit, global thrift retailer offering great quality, gently used clothing, accessories and household goods. Our Rethink Reuse® business model of purchasing, reselling and recycling gives communities a smart way to shop and keeps more than 7 million pounds of used goods from landfills each year. We also help more than nonprofit organizations by purchasing donated goods from them, which provides a source of revenue to help supports their vital community programs and services. Our brands comprise of Savers (in the U.S and Australia), Value Village (in the U.S. and Canada), Unique (in the U.S.), and Village des Valeurs (in Quebec). All in all, we operate over 3 locations and have 22, employees.
We re an impressive thrift store, a community champion and a revolutionary recycler. And we ve been at it for more than 60 years!
Every year, North Americans send 12 million tons of textiles into the landfills. 95% of which could be reused or recycled. This means our clothing habits are creating an overflow in our landfills, but sustainable fashion doesn’t have to be a pipe dream.
At Savers®, reuse is our reason for being and we are committed to raising awareness and prompting action around the issue of textile waste. Because one thrifted t-shirt can save up to 700 gallons of water, and a secondhand pair of jeans saves up to 1,800 gallons more. When we all make small changes, together we create a big impact.
Join the Rethink Reuse® movement and learn how to reduce your own clothing footprint.
Reuse is serious business. And it’s our business. The vast majority of the goods we purchase and process are reused in the item’s original form. In other words, clothing is often sold again as clothing, rather than as recycled fiber. The vast majority of books are sold as books, rather than paper pulp. In cases where this simply isn’t possible, we find a workaround: textiles can be repurposed as insulation and books recycled into new paper products. All in all, we prevent more than 700 million pounds of goods from reaching the waste stream annually — equivalent in weight to more than 160,000 cars.
Since we opened our doors more than 65 years ago, we
have partnered with local nonprofit organizations to supply
clothing and household items to our stores. When we
purchase used goods from nonprofits in communities across
the U.S., Canada and Australia, the revenue these nonprofits
earn helps empower them to continue to serve a wide
range of community needs. From helping young children
and veterans, to providing services for people with disabilities
and achieving breakthroughs in medical research, we’re
honored to partner with so many charitable organizations
as a vital part of our supply chain.
