Asked to all employees at T-Mobile

  • None of them are really hard. They are based on the SAR method, Situation, Action, Result. Typically you are asked to describe a particular situation, what action did you need to take and what was the end result. One example would be "please describe to me a time in which you had to work with a difficult customer. What was the situation and why was it so difficult?" A possible answer would be a customer came in because their phone was not working and it was apparent there was physical damage to the phone. The customer refused to accept that they would have to buy a new phone so I provided them the option of filing an insurance claim, which they did not even realize they had. I assisted the customer with filing the insurance claim and they left very satisfied because their replacement phone would be arriving the next day.

Asked to the Sales Department at T-Mobile

  • I don’t remember any. What I remember is that they are looking for people who are excited, people with great personalities and social. On the job training will give you the experience you need but if you don’t have a great personality that will attract people, then that experience really isn’t going to help you. T-Mobile is an exciting place and you have to be excited to work here or this job isn’t for you.

  • Could be more competitive with other companies in the Seattle area. It all depends on your negotiation skills and knowledge of what your skills are worth. If money is your biggest motivation and determining factor in taking a job, T-Mobile most likely isn’t going to be the highest bidder for your design skills.

Asked to the Design Department at T-Mobile

  • Depends on the design team you are on. Our team is very social and collaborative. The hours you work are dependent on the type of employee you are. Contractors are limited to 40 hours a week. FTE employees typically work between 40-60 hours. It’s all about the team you’re on and your willingness to stick to firm boundaries around your non-work hours. There is more than enough work to do that if you want to put in long hours you can, but it will hasten burnout if your not careful.

  • Depends on which design team you are referring to. T-Mobile has multiple design teams that are spread across different organizations. Progress for evangelizing the value of UX design is taking place, but still has a ways to go before we can say it is a design centered company.
