Esri – For the most part, I love Esri. I've been a user, competitor, or consultant for it since 1987. I love the values, vision, and aspirational culture. I find execution wanting. What makes you most happy at work?

Managing my team and helping them develop as individuals and professionals. Working with stakeholders to balance capacity, innovation, and customer success.

What are some of the best things about your team?

I love my team. They are superb, talented, creative, curious, and collaborative. I've hired only one person that did not fit. We live the values daily. We work professionally, but loose--like a good football team. We balance perfection with urgency. We're universally pragmatic. But idealistic too.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

In general, everyone is willing to help, although I've found that changing recently. Most people live the Collaborate values every day. I admire Jack's solidity, his genuine love of geography and what it can do for the world. Most of us drive what we do from that.

What do you like best about the leadership team?

Our values are superb and for the most part, the leaders exemplify them every day. Our mutual connection with customers is among the best in the world. We do have a sense of purpose and it is one that most of us feel we contribute to and work by.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

Because we genuinely value people, I feel people who have been here for a long time dominate the decision making process. There's group think. I have decades of industry experience. I find my role narrow and difficult to break out. $ is ok but lower than what I would make elsewhere for my ability.
