Required work is not disclosed, and required hours are well above 40/week. This is not well known in the hiring process

It felt that, no matter what the answer, one would get the job. There are simply not enough qualified applicants.

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?
There is no trust in co-workers. Also, the company policy to recruit friends tends to alienate real life relationships, further straining day to day activities. Recruitment from outside referrals would go far to help..
