In corporate software development we have a mix of behavioral question and technical skillset questions. We hire candidates who are good fits both technically and culturally. The technical skillset filter for entry-level developers is vary lax because we're fine with training new developers.

Executives regularly demonstrate basic humanity and common sense. Most have been with the company for many years and demonstrate long-term commitment to the company's prosperity. The executive team -- especially the CEO -- are prone to spectacular displays of how they value long-term employees.

Consequently our devs know our systems, our standards and best practices, our market/customers, and they know how to work with each other. I have interesting problems to solve, and sometimes they're even challenging. My work has real impact on saving lives. If 0.1% of the nurses who have used a produce I've made save 0.1% more lives because of my work, then I've contributed to saving thousands of lives.
