Elsevier – There are good parts and bad parts, as it always is. The people are better and kinder than I expected. The bureaucratic overhead is expectedly slowing down development, but that's being worked on with the Shape-up initiative. Legacy systems to learn, debug and maintain, but overall good stuff. | Comparably

What are some of the best things about your team?

Communication - we help each other out, and nobody is ever alone.

What makes you most happy at work?

Problem-solving is always rewarding, and interacting with my team and other teams.

What is the best part about your compensation package?

Working from home (not required to go to office) and flexible schedule. Work-life balance is good and that is motivating to me.

What do you like best about the leadership team?

The flat hierarchy. The fact that I can ask an any-level manager a question and they will genuinely answer if they can, or refer me to the person best suited (or more than them) to answer my question.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

Management understands that my small team just landed on a legacy codebase created by multiple and larger teams, so they insist that our mistakes are not to be blamed on us and seen as progress and lessons instead. That's very reassuring and empowering.
