Elsevier has a positive culture and an important mission. The pay and benefits are subpar, and there's consistent issues with workload.

What are some of the best things about your team?

My team is incredibly smart, dedicated and driven. What's more, we are a supportive bunch, and everyone gets along well.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

This is a genuinely supportive environment where we challenge each other to do our very best. Successes are celebrated, and we build each other up. The culture is why I stay here.

What do you like best about the leadership team?

I've seen a real change in how Elsevier is being led, thanks to Kumsal. We have regular communication, and I feel as though there is concern for my well being as a person, as well as our progress toward business goals.

What do you like best about the leadership team?

We've had very clear communication about what is happening with COVID that puts our health and wellbeing first. We've also been able to maintain customer focus during this challenging time, and that is because the leadership team has kept us focused on this goal.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

A raise that reflects the work I do would make me feel better about my compensation. Like other companies, Elsevier hires in at the lowest rate possible, and then, not mater the growth shown and increased value during one's tenure, pay never really rises.

What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?

I've always admired the fact that the culture here is supportive. We all strive to succeed, and when we have personal successes, they are celebrated. The culture is one of, if you win, I win. This is one of the key reasons why I stay.

What's going wrong and how can it be improved?

It's hard to be excited when there's so much to do that it's impossible to get it all done. This isn't stretch-goal type of thing-it's simply too much all at once. I consistently have issues with workload that result in not being able to take time off and a constant feeling of being behind.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?

I was hired in ten years ago at a very low rate (I took a job during the recession), and I'm still not paid what they would have hired someone in at at the bottom of the pay tier. This angers me, and, while I love the mission and my colleagues, this is what makes me think about leaving.
