I really see a lot of potential here and I want to do well but I do think our lack of boundaries and clarity is really getting in our way.
Briefly describe your overall experience at your company
RingCentral has given me tons of opportunity to learn and try new things. However, I am very concerned with the lack of long-term planning and the constant changing of priorities. I understand tech has changes but I worry if we don't have a long term strategy, we will never reach our true potential
What makes you most happy at work?
When I can actually do my work.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
I appreciate all the clubs focused on inclusivity.
What is the best part about your compensation package?
I find the salary to be competitive and fair.
What are some of the best things about your team?
There are some people I really enjoy working with. But there is a persistent culture that fosters unhealthy competition and lack of cooperation.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
The most positive thing about the culture and the environment is that there is a willingness to try new things and test and learn and fail.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
We need role clarity and boundaries. It is impossible to get work done without a committee and we receive no concrete business goals to work towards so there's no prioritization. Additionally, we are held to unrealistic deadlines without the infrastructure, resources, or appropriate feedback loops.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
The biggest challenge to getting things done here is that decisions such as which product gets a major focus is changing constantly. There isn't a long term strategy or overarching goals to ladder our work up to. The focus seems to be at random and shifting every two weeks.
What are some of the best things about your team?
There are some people here who are truly amazing and go above and beyond their work. They are pleasant, responsive, and accountable. They recognize we are one team all working together for the same goals. I wish I could say everyone here is like that but there is some room for improvement.
What makes you most happy at work?
I am excited for the opportunities I've been given by my manager to grow and try new things. This year I took a very unexpected role and I've been loving it. I am also very happy with my boss who has really been mentoring me and supporting me a lot this year.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I have peers who are a level above me and yet in some cases, I am doing the double the work as them. Often times I find myself having to step into leadership roles (when my boss is absent) while they do not. I would like to be given the same title to match the work and responsibility I have shown.
