Law360 used to be a great place to work, when it was constantly growing and investing in the powerhouse newsroom it developed. But after people were laid off despite high revenue growth, I feel like a cog in a machine whose only purpose is to pay dividends to shareholders while not rewarding staff.
What is most positive about the culture and environment at your company?
The union. Without them, I fear how we would be treated.
What makes you most happy at work?
Being able to bring valuable news to professionals who rely on our coverage to conduct their complex work.
What are some of the best things about your team?
My direct manager is great and helping the team navigate issues and explain complex topics we are reporting on. People on my beat are helpful and willing to take time to assist with anything.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
Other than paying people on par with industry standards, they need to get more familiar with the journalism industry and what makes a newsroom successful. Just shorehorning in Lexis products, including AI for the sake of it, does not automatically make the Law360 newsroom more productive.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Law360 froze salaries during union contract negotiations amid decades-high inflation, and now insists on not giving many employees any raises in the next contract. Contrary to what the company has said, competitors like Bloomberg pay much better, despite us being ranked higher by the ABA for news.
