What does the leadership team need to get better at?
HBO was a fantastic place to work, back in 2000 or earlier (well before my times). Ever since the AT&T merger (or shall we say, hostile takeover) it has regressed into a chopshop! This was the worst deal ever made in the history of mergers.

Hiring. It drags sown the entire company when hires are bad because then the effective employees have to shoulder all of the work. Thats why the best ones right now are leaving in floods and the slowest and least efficient people are staying behind. The moving up process is also horrendous

Communication. This is the biggest issue, none of the managers speak to each other and no one speaks to the line employees, it becomes a huge confusing mess, and of course the managers never shoulder the blame, all of the pressure falls on the hourly workers. The upper executives become very lazy.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
The annual raises are pityful to begin with and we are severely underpaid, compared to the industry standards.

Half of the job I do is done by another department in the company and they are paid at least $15,000 higher than we are

For some reason, janitorial workers get paid a very sad amount compared to the work load, there is no incentive to do a good job and the custodians end up very resentful, and don’t work as hard.

I Loved my Prior Manager but she retired & the person who replaced her wasn’t familiar with the WB procedures & therefore wanted to implement His own..

The workers are great, friendly and want to do a good job. But the managers have never done any of the work we do, or haven’t in many years, and have no clue about the level stress we have to shoulder.

There is a sense of gloom with the recent AT&T merger and so everyone is extra paranoid about their jobs. The folks from Turner pretend to be the boss of all. It is a very toxic environment.

Remove the toxic people (i.e. the management).

Management is growing very comfortable, the upper folks are paying themselves a hefty amount for doing almost nothing, the hourly workers are resentful and find ways to not do as much, because they don’t have any incentive to do so.

Departments have been gutted and replaced with outsourced companies, sometimes in other countries, and none of the replacements have been trained. As a vendor I find myself actually training the client. So much time is wasted.
