It’s common because when we are starting out, lots can go wrong. When we say “fake it”, it’s not that we are truly faking it, it’s that we are giving everything we do our best shot with whatever tools are available to us at the given time. This means there is a learning process, and during which, we might improvise or make minor adjustments. In so many ways, it might even feel like we are “faking it” because it is unfamiliar to us and we are learning and figuring it out as we go along. But the mantra, and a perhaps “false” showing of confidence is what keeps the startup business owner smiling and moving forward. In short, It’s a method for recognizing shortfalls, limitations and errors. But we don’t let the customer see those... The “til we make it”, refers to a time in the future when we have worked out those kinks and holes in our process, and we are able to get it perfect 99.999% of the time. It is then that we have true confidence, and are fully knowing what to do.

How much notice does the company typically give employees when they let them go? If the company typically gives same day notice that an employee is being terminated, then I’d see no reason to provide any advance notice to the company that you are going to leave. If the company typically provides an advanced notice of potential downsizing or a 2 week severance, then 2 weeks notice would be appropriate.

No. Unless what was done out side unlawful and in a personal capacity, that is not fair. It encourages harassment and does not add to a professional environment. Any views or actions that do harm the Company may lead to this end. However this sets a bad precedent.

I think people are overwhelmed - it seems to be a trend that you take on more than just your role/responsibilities and the stress of that can make people unhappy in their job.

Have worked for younger bosses on more than one occasion, have no problem at all, almost prefer it as they are more open to new ideas & getting things done in newer, faster & more efficient ways without feeling threatened.

Bad attitudes from employees, including employees that have "checked out". Employees needing to take a larger than normal amount of time off when not actually going on vacation. Employers that have no boundaries.

There is a problem with physical threats and racist remarks I know Someone personally who has went through this and the manager had done nothing about it. Really he neglected the situation and when more than one person brought it up he twisted it to make it seem like eveyone was trying to get her fired. That is unacceptable and surprised he even has a job let alone a manger role.

If a situation like this turns unnecessarily out of control, then they should be reminded that all their FOCUS must be primarily on the completing and optimizing the tasks of each working day. Arguments contesting or disputing personal political opinions, views and respective perspectives between co-workers or employee/client, when not specified as a required aspect of the company's policies or expected duties, must be reserved to be debated outside work hours, at the employee's own personal time. Prioritizing and accomplishing all work requirements, to attain own personal/professional growth, paving the road to a wider spectrum of opportunities, flexibility, self ownership and self fulfilment.

Some really bad employees have been with the company a long time and the owners or supervisors feel a respinsibility to that person. When bad employees aren't fired it's due to personal reasons between the person who has that authority and the person who isn't measuring up.

You will never make them all happy. The people who show up for traditional hours will always resent those who do their own schedule, those that want to work their own schedule will always look down on those who want to work traditional hours. Do whatever works best for you and your company. Right now I have people that are irritated they have to work in the office three days a week (it's a collaborative team and they aren't doing very good collaborating from home) and I have a team that shows up (salaried and they work more than 40 hours a week) that are irritated they cannot consistently find people in the other department.

Birthdays don't matter and no one cares. That said, my company has a "birthday cupcake party" every month for all those who have a birthday in that month. But again, no one past 10 really cares about birthdays.
