They all talk a good talk, but when you read between the lines, it's all about making the C-suite and their friends richer. Corporate offices get million dollar make-overs, but the peons don't get anything - we just get our benefits cut & measly 2% raises, not even enough to keep up with inflation.

I work in one of the largest medical centers in the country. Pay in this company is not competitive and employee retention is hard.

its not compensation, HCA manages to stay just below market rates in terms of pay. its how poorly they treat employees.

Level of leadership does not equal pay. At an employee level certain disciplines earn differing pay. However as one attains manager, director, and up this stays in place. A manager may earn substantially less than his or her employees. His often leads to new leaders leaving the leader role.

I can only speak for my department - but our manager really needs to go. In general, I see the Peter Principle occur around here a lot. I've been with the company nearly 20 years, and a large number of our middle managers really shouldn't be managers.

When I was first hired, the team lead vetted me over the phone, then I came in for an interview with the manager then a peer interview. I will admit the peer interview was a little daunting, but I quickly realized that in order to be successful, everyone needed to be invested. Process works!

I'm mostly upset over the lousy PTO policy. If you get sick and have to take a leave of absence, they immediately take away 5 PTO days. HCA will not negotiate on PTO. You can have 20+ years experience and be in your 50's, but upon hire you'll still get the PTO time of a recent college grad.
