I enjoy seeing customers smile, and a lot of them genuinely appreciate me going beyond what I'm asked to do.
What did you like most about the interview process?
Within five minutes I was told I was pretty much over qualified and had the job. I started work two days later.
What are some of the best things about your team?
Our store director really tries to raise people's spirits and make work life fun. It would really help us if we got less free pens and cookies and more money, though.
What do you like best about the leadership team?
Everybody works to be on the same page. We all support each other instead of getting chastised for messing up. There is a lot of understanding in the leadership and intolerance doesn't last.
What makes you most happy at work?
I'm happiest at work when I'm interacting with customers. I suffer badly from depression, which makes it hard to enjoy life, but being told by a stranger that I'm appreciated makes a world of difference.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Every department should be paid more. Courtesy clerks especially. We have to do pretty much everything and I only get paid $12.50 an hour, even though I also work half the time as a cashier, and cashiers make $15.
