What do you like best about the leadership team?
I do not feel that promotions are fairly being given. I mean, you can have years of experience but if you dont have years with Safeway, you are treated unfairly and not even interviewed for the position. I do not feel comfortable giving my name because I do not want backlash.

The management at safeway is very childish, they play games with peoples lives, if they for some reason don't like you they will cut you down to 5 hours a week.

Hiring competent management who have good leadership skills.ie: willing to take responsibility for their mistakes and not using their downteam to take the blame to make themselves look good

My immediate supervisor has no management skills. She takes the time off she wants and everyone else works around her schedule. She gets employees to take care of her animals while she is on vacation and apparently offers them "good" schedules in return for the help. Store Director turn a blind eye.

Store manager needs to either learn how his sub-depts work in order to better support the dept managers, or stop actively impeding them from doing their job by constantly changing schedules/hires after the dept manager has done them. Awful store management.

Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
Get payed 13.60 and I'm one if the best night crew members and they don't wanna give me a raise anyways everyone on night crew thinks I deserve it

I've put in 1,100 hours at safeway so far. And got a 10 cent raise for it. That's a slap in the face. Starting wage is 10 cents over minimum, they do not pay you higher because of experience. So now I've worked there almost a year and make 20 cents over minimum wage. More per hour would be nice.

Pay is wildly varied despite being scheduled the same number of hours every week, resources like PTO are impossible to track/access.

Assistant managers who dont even get the promotion the proper way talking about their employees badly to other lower level employees and spreading rumors or lies makes it very uncomfortable to work with.

Do a complete change in management. Some departments need it more than others. But someone who is qualified and actually knows what they're doing....not bring in someone with no management skills or history -- or someone who has been with the company for four months -- and put them in charge.

Asking questions that someone with a disadvantage of knowledge in particular area during important interviews just so someone else who would know because of the department they are in gets the position even though they are incompetent.
