When considering whether to promote an employee who has worked for a few years, consider their accomplishments over the course of the complete years rather than just the current one. This will help them stand out from those who joined later. and got promoted.

Listening to Employees and not treating people like a cog in the wheel

Promoting contractors to full-time when they are doing an exceptionable job vs. promoting a whole team of people because they are afraid to lose them. They promoted a whole team of people because everyone was quitting, and the rest of us that are excelling just have to wait and see.
