I came into Target a bright eyed, excited college grad. I quickly learned many of my colleagues were cliquey, cut-throat, and not supportive. It was impossible to be my authentic self and succeed there.
What makes you most happy at work?
The end of the day.
What did you like most about the interview process?
I had a hiring manager slip me her business card and let me know to contact her directly if I wasn't hired for the role I interviewed for.
Why do you feel undervalued and what would make you feel better about your compensation?
I learned that new hires in my same position were hired at a much higher wage. My experience wasn't valued and my development wasn't encouraged. I knew I had to move on to find fulfillment in my career.
What do your coworkers need to improve and how could you work together better?
My coworkers were simply following the formula they knew could get them ahead. The problem is that it works to get them ahead, but not to run a business properly. A huge culture shift is needed there to improve collaboration.
What does the leadership team need to get better at?
I experienced a lot of inconsistency when it came to leadership. They also have an old approach to managing employees. Widespread is the belief that "perception is everything" which is tough when many of the workforce gossip and follow group-think.
